Pupil Voice
Pupil Voice at Merley First School
Pupil voice is fundamentally important in all the decisions made regarding life at Merley. Pupil Voice Champions, Librarians, Sports Leaders, Peer to Peer Mediators and Eco Team all active participants in daily school life. Pupils also take part in partnership work with other schools in Initio Learning Trust and beyond and various events with our community such as supporting Wimborne Food Bank and Wimborne War on Waste. Whole school questionnaires and subject specific pupil voice also inform decisions regarding our school and community.
Pupil voice at Merley First School means a whole-school commitment to listening to the views, wishes and experiences of all children. It means placing value on what children tell school staff about their experiences.
There are a range of ways that pupils are engaged in pupil voice activities. These are :
Pupil Voice Ambassadors who met regularly and lead class assemblies.
Eco Warriors take a lead in considering how we maintain our Eco Schools status.
Play Leaders who ensure playtime resources are organised and well looked after.
Peer to Peer Mediators who are trained to support resolving conflict in the playground.
Sports Leaders who engage in playing with children and developing games and use of sporting equipment at playtime.
Librarians demonstrate our school value of respect, whilst looking after our library.
Our Pupil Voice assemblies are a time to explore aspects of school life with children in each class regarding local or global issues.
