Merley First School

About Us

Our school is a bright, open building. We have ten classrooms, each named after a wild creature we might find locally. Our school is inclusive and every classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and provides children with access to chromebooks and other learning resources to enrich their learning experiences.

Merley First School is a member of Initio Learning Trust and is situated in Merley, about one mile from the centre of Wimborne.

We are open from 8.45 in the morning and school starts at 8.55. The end of the afternoon session for the children is at 3.15pm which means we provide the statutory requirement of 32.5 hours of education per week.

The classrooms lead from broad corridor spaces containing shared computer suites, role play areas, bookcases and work stations.  At the centre of the school is our hall, used for assemblies, physical education and performances.

Our wooded nature area provides a wonderful outdoor classroom, containing a pond for pond dipping, trails through the trees, a treehouse and a circle of log seats for special story times and wellbeing time.

Indoors and outdoors, we enjoy learning at Merley First School.

Outside, we have four playgrounds which include quiet garden areas as well as plenty of space to run around. We have large fields bounded by trees giving fabulous open play spaces in the dry months of the year. The timber play trail is very popular at play times, lunchtimes and throughout the day.
